Although applications involving fuel gases are safe when handled by experienced personnel, dangerous situations can arise if they are used incorrectly. Fuel gases should only be used once suitable safety precautions have been understood and implemented. Special safety devices such as back-flame arrestors or point-of-use safety devices protect against dangerous back-flames and backfires. Safety devices / flashback arrestors (formerly known as point-of-use safety devices) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 5175-1 are designed to protect individual cylinders, dispensing points or pipework systems and can be used with all common types of gas, such as acetylene, propane (LPG), propylene, methane (natural gas), hydrogen or oxygen.
